1998 W202/C230 self dimming mirror

Interior mirror, self dimming. After it started flopping around and would no longer hold position, I searched for repair instructions on several sites, but couldn't find any except for Mbenz's photos for the more complex European unit, which is different inside. The MB dealer and my tech said it needed to be replaced with a new MB unit (~$200). After the new one was installed I figured I had nothing to loose and used MBenz's comments as a starting point and succesfully disassembled the unit, found that the problem was not a tensioning ring issue (a problem with the Euro mirrors), but fatigue of 2 "V" springs which hold the mirror firmly against the arm mounting plate. I expanded the springs, re-assembled, and it feels as good as original. I can't return the new one, so this one will go for $100 plus shipping/insurance. Mounting instructions included.
