Any chance of a PPI? Documented service history? AC or ACC works? Sunroof, windows, vacuum controlled devices? Oil leaks? Exhaust smoke? Rust? Accident history?

The front end is different from what you're used to in a 123 but entirely serviceable. Special tools make easy work of installing LCA bushings but it can be done with creativity.

Hard to imagine the front end needs work and the rear doesn't.

I'd say $2000 is a fair price.
