That wouldn't make sense to me. All my cranks, diesel and gas all have the wide forging lines across the crankshaft. I haven't actually obtained a post 95my engine which is when the big production break was and many cost cuts were made, but I'm fairly confident all of mine, 3.0, 3.2 and my 350D crank are forged. In fact I have a very early production run 3.2 crank and it's stamped 603 on the front arm of the throw.
