This General's views were post military service if I got it correctly. DURING military service it is quite prohibited for a member of the armed service to make political statements in public.
If you want to read about someone who MADE such political statements not completely unlike Butler's, check out Colonel Hackworth. Unlike Butler, he was anti war while he was SERVING in the military and was run out of the military for it. He even went on a national talk show during the Viet Nam conflict while SERVING as a commander IN the Viet Nam conflict criticizing the acts of Westmoreland and the Army.
It may come as a surprise to some that I don't disagree with either General Butler OR Colonel Hackworth. What I DO have lots of problem with are those who never served and have ABSOLUTELY NO BASELINE for understanding what it's like to be in the military, to criticize those of us that had to serve.

Thank you Larry, those are some good observations.
What Butler said about War being a profit margin business, was what struck me as being so profound.
I lost interest in Hackworth when it was revealed that he ran a whorehouse in Nam. I cant get down with a low life pimp. In my book these are the lowest of the low type of parasitic bottom feeding scum bucket peices of Shyt walking the face of God's green earth.
