I damaged the rad on an '82 300SD the same way. Snapped the overflow pipe clean off at the tank. This happened the night before i was to leave on a 9 hour drive to good ol' sunny and hot Florida. I bought the epoxy putty and a barbed brass pipe coupler. Luckily this happened to me in the summer so after the car sat over night the overflow pipe worked perfectly. I sold the car a year later (2005) and last year the guy who bought it from me told me that the rad that I repaired was still in the car and leak free. Sounds good to me!
