If you can't do that you could also do a flow test, sort of what I mentioned before.
Yes, essentially fuel pressure makes it work.
It is important to realize that even though it LOOKS like an ignition distributor, the distributor puts out constant pressure to all the injectors (hence the name CIS, continuous injection system), it is not putting out fuel based on engine timing.
There is a diaphragm inside the dizzy which can fail but it's pretty rare, but yes it can fail. You need some pretty specialized gauges to test the system, even to test fuel pressure on an MB I think you probably found at autozone, probably the stuff they have won't work to even do a basic pressure test.
