On my 4 speed 240D with failed ign lock assembly I:
-key remains in the in the "off" position!
-connected both vaccum tubes that went to ign module together and
kinked and wrapped them so the engine will run.
-made manual overide for glow plugs
-made manual overide for starter
-turn signals don't work
-somehow enough electrification is present which allows gauges work at
cruise but will misread at idle. oil gauge is manual and works regardless!
-engine is killed with clutch
-charging system is fully functional!!!
moral of the story: when visiting the wrecker and you see an Ignition module for your car with corresponding key stuck in it - GRAB IT!
story of the moral: driving with no ingnition swtich ain't normal
i don't think this will be doable with a 300D with turbo and especially not a second generation SD.
