Got curious and put a test light between neg battery terminal and neg ground wire . . . light lit bright, damn! Decided to reverse wiring on the two large poles of Ford style relay -check neg terminal again, no light, hurray! Apparently, there is a difference between the two poles in spite of no markings - lesson learned, hope this helps someone else attempting the same. Will check battery again in the morning to ensure no drain overnight -
