Normally, pressing the lock on the rear head rest allows it to be lowered all the way or lifted out. There is also a storage area underneath the edge of the seat cushion where the center head rest can be stored. The chrome rods are inserted and the support part rests on the center 'hump'.
The button is labelled with a picture of a headrest falling down. It is the button that I have used to lower my headrest for the last 10 years. The rear headrest have 2 positions up or down. We definitely have to different set ups, but I haven't seen a 1998 w210 with a different one that mine.

So when the headrests are raised they lock into place. To lower them the button on the dash is pushed and the headrest are released allowing them to fall back down with gravity.

I am looking for a manual way to lower the headrest as the button is not working (pump is dead). Please help!!!!
