Those linkage bushings, although not related to shift points, can get incredibly sloppy when they go bad. They are nasty to replace without the proper tool. After doing it twice with pliers, a lot of swearing, and hot water and a microwave oven, I bought the right tool for it. You don't know how bad they are until you operate a shifter with new bushings.
