My fuel gauge moves a 1/4 or so in either direction from about the center point of the empty to full range regardless of how much fuel I have in the car.

The pointer does go to the empty position when the car is turned off, so, I am guessing that my sending unit is stuck,

Can it be cleaned? if so, How should I proceed?
