I've driven a W124 (1993 300D) 5-spd conversion and I wasn't overly impressed, but they sure get fantastic MPG. Good for hypermilers or long freeway commutes at least. I couldn't live with one in city traffic though. Ugh.

Well maybe hate was a strong word.... I just love a good manual transmission. Always had... the only vehicle I will keep an auto in if I had a choice is my land cruiser and that is just because it makes off roading that much easier.
