Apart from a sliughtly cheaper entry price, the 200T is/was the least sensible choice... Less power, same fuel consumption as the 230TE - which was not much more expensive.
And a 230TE is fairly quick, absolutely no troubles in modern TDI turbo-trafic

A 200T however... Hmm... As has been pointed out, it's the gasser that comes closest to a diesel
Btw: they also made a W124 200T!
