Yes new hoses are needed. A/C shops and hose supply shops (Hose Man) can make them for you. You may need to re-use the fittings opposite the compressor (or have new fittings welded on), but the compressor fittings are a stock item for A/C shops. Most speed shops have Sandens (or similar) in stock, or they are available from performance parts websites (Summit, Jegs etc.).

And there are special barrier hoses for r134-- if you dont know the difference a snake oil salesman will getcha on old stock--if they still got " a warehouse full of it--And i gotta move it". r134 blleeds thru the substandard hose.
