I went thru that a couple years ago.. First we made access to the rear part of our lot.. We live on a corner.. Put in a 20 foot wide gate and made a gravel drive across the back part of the lot.. Wife did not like the walk from the back to the house thru the grass and leaves when wet.. and Did not like the gravel because it was not even and flat.. made it hard for her to walk on..
We then took half of the front yard and put down black top.. We made an area to the side where we can put 3 cars turned in off the drive parked side by side along a short wall to keep them off the grass.. That gave us parking for 3 more cars and left the drive way open for the two in the garage.. Our garage is one car wide and two long.. and we usaly have two cars and two motorcycles in it.. One with sidecar..
The Black top did hold up a couple years but was not holding up well so we poured cement.. It works out great.. We live on a hill.. and I love the setup because I can pull our Goldwing w/champion escort sidecar in to the side and let it roll back down the hill into the garage so its headed out.. Do the same with my 2 up motorcycle.. I can move one car out and get to the one in front.. So the whole thing with the parking as pull in to the side of the drive leaves the drive open and the cars and bikes out of the way of the garage driveway.. and uses less area than other things we tryed to work out..
My wife loves that friends can park in front and not have their cars on the street..
Go with cement.. It will last and save you the time and money of redoing it in a couple years.. Just come up with a good plan before you do it the first time..
