Well I have a Cali 85 300D. we removed all the Cali junk and changed it to the way an 83 300D is set up, and as I remember still used the Cali starter. later on I had a starter issue, and swaped in a Federal starter.

I have not heard it mentioned before there are different tooth count on the starters, or there is a auto FW for the Cali and one for the Federal one`s.

1) Not much power
2) Even less power

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.
