A simple example to illustrate this is the third brake light on a 560SL. For the '86 and '87 model years, the part number is 107 820 07 56. For the '88 and '89 model years, the part number is 107 820 09 56. Those parts are not interchangeable.
Maybe I should have said version number instead of revision number.
