I know you posted this back on the 4th of March in 2008, but as I read it the FIRST TIME (and now as I write this) you didn't mention any mechanic getting into the job, either from an indee or stealership angle. My assumption (sorry for that) was that this question was being asked from the shadetree mechanical side...i.e.: jack-stands, wife and kids underfoot, the socket that rolled 1/2" beyond your best reach, the works...
Now that you point out that you're 80+ vs. the rest of us "still wet behind the ears" kinda' folks, I can see why you're thinking stealership mechanic and not out in the bright and shinny or dark, cold and damp.
You could have said "I've got a quote for 6 hours and $900.00," but I didn't see that in Post #1.
Maybe, next time, a little more information and a little less vinegar.
BTW: I stand by my estimate and information. The camera has proved quite usefull when the problem has become more than I can handle. And some cameras provide the camcorder angle ("talkies" are included!). When a more experienced mechanic can "hear" what you've recorded, it saves you a lot of time and embarrassment by NOT having to do the "monkey dance & noises" while trying to show the SA what the car was doing, but not right at that time you're at the counter.
