I had no front mats in my car when I bought it. I've got a VW TDI with rubber mats in it and I've fallen in love with them. They look sharp and they are indestructible. I asked all the local dealerships in my area if they carried or could order OEM rubber mats for my w124 wagon and nobody seemed to have them available. They all suggested I go with aftermarket mats like Loyd's or other such company.

I finally found a set online at Eckler's and having seached a while for them I thought I'd post a link in case anybody else with a 124 is looking. Not cheap at just over $100 for the set but they look terrific!
