I suggest you keep the Delco glowplug as a spare in the toolkit. They aren't the first choice.

As a general statement, one hefty repair estimate is often enough to park an old Mercedes at the yard.

More specifically, if you mean the 380se, the 380 models prior to May '85 had a single row timing chain that requires more frequent changes than the dual chains used on the other V8s. Inattentive owners often had them snap, with resulting bent valves.
