This depends on where you move to in Texas. Since there is no state income tax the state is run by sales taxes. These are the same all over the state.

But from city to city there can be vast differences. Some cities charge 1% less in sales tax. The cities that do charge it get the tax money sent back to them by the state, and those that do not charge it normally have higher property taxes. As in much, much higher property taxes.

The cities that don't charge the 1% are normally where you will find a lot of big ticket sellers, like car dealers, and this saves you 1% on the price of a new car.

Some cities have no property taxes on homes but these cities have higher taxes on businesses. No city charges any property tax on a Church, so some cities don't allow churches to be built without a special permit.

In short: Taxes in Texas are complicated, but with a bit of research you can work the system to work for you and not the other way around. Over the long run a little bit of research can pay off big.

And since this is the first of a new year a lot of laws and tax regulations from city to city might change, so make sure if you are planning on a move such as this your research is current.
