I got my 1981 240D a rebuilt heater evaporator vent box. Took it out and disassembled and cleaned it completely. New sponge rubber cord seals. All new foam rubber on the vent flaps, fabricated a few metal clips that rusted out that were not Mercedes available parts, Por/15ed and painted the ends of the evaporator coils to stop that rust, used coil cleaner to clean all the dust and derbis from the core fins and evaporator fins. Used CLR to remove all the caked up rust int he heater core, replaced all the rubber orings and seals with original mercedes replacements. Fabricated foam rubber gaskets when I could not order parts. Cleaned 30 years worth of cigarette smoke odors and an inch of ash out of the box. Now I just need to get my floor boards patched and Por-15ed and I can put it back in!
