Recently the driver side dome light and reading light went out on my '93 500SEL. They flickered in a dimmer than normal mode for a short while, then went out completely. The right side passenger lights work fine in either mode for the dome light, and the reading light can be operated normally as well. All other interior lights work fine.
Shortly after the lights went out, there was an electrical "fire" smell in the car which would indicate something was "smoke-checked" along the way. I am told there is a component that controls the functions of these lights, so I suspect part of that unit failed.
Does anyone know where that component is located, or does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?
(Yes, I have tried a new bulb in the dome light)
Thanks.
