We had a late 70's Donzi Sweet 16 as a lake boat in Maine when I was a kid (through my mid-teens) with a 305. It wasn't blistering with the small block but it was a fun play/ski boat that was relatively economical, handled the chop well when the wind picked up and sounded good at WOT.

It would handle a larger than average single skier with 2 people in the boat just fine. I'd guess 50's mph without a functioning speedo. Our reference was my uncle's 440 powered '67 Stevens Dragboat that would blow by us at about 100 (unless the waves picked up and that flat bottom kept him in the 30's

).
