I would tend to agree with you on this. My 84 SD came with a new Sony XPLOD radio/CD player. The best part about it is that it has Bluetooth connect, which I've used extensively to stream music from my iPhone with Sirius/XM app.

My new (to me) 86 SDL has the original Becker Grand Prix radio in it, which is in pristine condition, just like the rest of the car. I'd really like to leave the original Becker in place, as it works just fine...just wish I could figure out a good way to somehow tether my phone for music playing (guess I should look into those cassette adapters).

BTW, my SD came with the original radio (uninstalled) and it's the same Becker that is pictured above. No knobs...only buttons and a small digital display.
