Sorry to hear about your loss. Almost sounded like the CCV line plugged up, with the rings being worn the compression makes it's way around and can send oil out through the dip stick.

We were discussing in this BB why MB doesn't put in a visual or audible alarm for low oil pressure along with the oil pressure gage. Something that would notify you immediately of low or no oil pressure so you could shut off the engine before it was destroyed.

Actually there is now something on ebay which for something like $180 they "give" you a kit for idiot lights on low oil pressure or others. Maybe if it were off of the OE sender I would consider it, but tapping for a new sending unit... no thanks.
