My E300D (with 200,000 miles on the clock) runs about 10 litres/100km generally around town and local running, 8.0 on a good motorway run at the speed limit here in France, 130km/hr.
I guess that's about 28mpg UK / 24 USA and 35mpg UK / 30 US.
