Interesting read. I've attended an auction or two when I wasn't bidding on the sale items. I've been to one where I was bidding on the single item up for sale, a house down the street from me. The one with the single item for sale went a bit slower, I'm guessing because the auctioneer only had one item to sell. I got outbid by about four grand. The new owners seem to be getting good use out of the place.
