The change that occurred was the addition of a tilt steering column. The older style interior had a fixed column. The new G's are adjustable.
I am really wondering if there is an adjustment of any sort that affects the pumps output to the steering. Maybe a valve that can be altered to increase boost. Do you have any technical knowledge of the workings of this system?
