300D Cabin Air Intake Mod

So I got this 85 300D, southwest car, runs great, real nice body, interior... some good some bad... I want to paint it (for the 4th time), cuz it looks Horrendous. So, I took off the plastic air intake grills under the windshield and the center piece - and found the mouse palace! Now I'm new to these cars, but I know my 80 240 leaks from that area into the cab. Now that I've opened it all up and can see whats going on in there, the volume of air (and water, and mice) seems a bit excessive. I guess I need to know the air requirements of the fan, but I'm trying to brainstorm a new setup. Cover the former plastic grill areas with sheet metal and bondo, have a lil scoop out of the drivers side cover for the air intake, with a cleanable screen, and another screen over the big hole under the wiper motor, and keep the drains just in case but make them smaller than a mouse (can you say hantavirus?) If anything like this exists, I'd love to know about it.

The direction I'm going with this car is low profile (psycological, not mechanical, although that would fit in better here), and drive it for the next 20 years. My china blue 80 240d arizona garage queen looks great, I've never had a car that nic e before and freaks me out a little bit, it definitely sticks out - plus I worry about getting bumped and scratched - I'd never be able to have a new car! So I want this 300D to just look descent - the paint is probably for another post - and I want to put tube bumpers and square american style headlights too. Thoughts?
