MBs don't rust there, that's why you wouldn't see rust there. W210s are well known for their spring perch rust, for example. Not a very safe rust point.

Subarus tend to either be well taken care of or totally abused. I'd say this was one of the abused ones, and so rust wouldn't be surprising.
