Too much suspicion in Dumberica since 9/11 -- leaving frequently feels like a breath of fresh air. You know, in some European countries, you can still board intra-EU flights without being asked "papers please, now take off your belt and shoes, prisoner." Even without applying for pre-check special status.
ID checks are the least of it. Re-entering the US after a trip to Quebec last year, I got the third degree, including some totally f**king inappropriate questions like "are you dating someone in Canada" from the American border guard. Unless he thought I had her and her family stashed in my trunk, I don't see how that would be reasonable (not that Canadians have such a burning desire to enter the US any more lol).
