Then you said its a regular OM617A, no changes other than the pump. So what pushed the boost so high? There must be some magic happening somewhere that I am not aware of.

I am going to speculate that more boost then needed to burn what Fuel the IP is injecting means more work for the Engine to compress higher density Air into the same space.
I don't think that injures anything but I think it has adds a minsicule extra load on the Engine meaing a miniscule loss of performance.
The exception would be if you are at some high altitude.
