If this car is still anything like it was when I sold it - I'll help you guys out here. Only reason for me selling this car was to buy a couple 5 speed 300E's and a cherry 350SD. The fact that I've had 3 other 87 diesel wagons before this one made the decision to sell easier.
Quick run down of car from memory - 1st private owner was a dentist around the Madison, WI area and used the car to drive to his practice. Drove the car from purchase to around 2001. 2nd owner was a bar owner in the Janesville, WI that used it similarly, to drive to work. No expense was spared in the repair and maintenance of the car - I had a huge stack of records with AC service, suspension work, turbo rebuild, etc etc. He's still using my pictures - so I don't know how the car looks now.

With that is mind, here are a few initial questions that come to mind based on your photographs and description:
Can you list out a few of the trove of upgrades? And I mean besides the radio, the >90 upgrade ashtray, and the fancy air filter.
As far as I left it, that was it.[ Factory airbox assembly was included, cone filter was on for a few days while I blocked off the EGR and the little flapper box underneath.
I might take issue with your characterization of rust issues a minimal if you are judging them only from outward appearances. Can you describe the extent to which you have explored the depth of the rust? For example, have you ever had the car on a lift? It that rust at the bottom of the front passenger door? Also, is that rust working through the white pain on the same door in the picture of the rusted jack port?
I may have some pictures deep in my computer of the underside of the car, don't hold your breath though. The suspension and all nooks and crannies on the underside were all clean and in great shape for a lifetime midwest car. Surprised the hell out of me when I went to change the rear hub carrier bushings. As far as you see in terms of rust, that was it.
When the car was repainted, do you know if it was repainted over any rust repair?
Car never had any rust repair - what you're seeing in terms of rust, is what you get. If I were have to kept the car any longer, it would've been fixed. The rust you see is strictly cosmetic. There is no structural rust anywhere on the car.
And if you have had the car on a lift, can you please also explain when the exhaust is routed with an aftermarket muffler out the wrong side of the rear end? Do you view that system as superior to the original?
Owner prior to me didn't know about the factory recall for the trap ox and was screwed out of a new factory exhaust for the car. If one would literally throw the trap ox back on the car and take it into a dealer it would all be taken care of. The car's VIN doesn't come back as having the trap ox serviced.
Do you know for how long the improper coolant has been used in the engine?
Was in there while I had it too.
Do you know why the washer fluid motor for the headlight washers has been removed and the grommet plugged? Are the headlight wipers still plugged in?
Was like this while I had it as well - wipers work. I believe it was plugged because the motor sprung a leak. BTDT before. I don't remember if I included a spare washer motor though.
Do you know why the SLS fluid is low? It appears to be an older configuration (< F039532). Is there a leak in the system? Does the rear maintain level under a load? Have you tested it? Are the accumulators holding their nitrogen charge?
No leaks and worked perfectly under my ownership.
Do the cracks in the right headlight/fog light cover go all the way through? Has there been any moisture exposure on the fog light reflector?
Not in my ownership. Reflectors are all clean and there was no condensation in the headlights, ever. Besides, the car screams for euro headlights.
Does the fuel tank low level light work? If so, at what level does it come on? And why isn't on in your picture of the instrument cluster with the engine running?
It does, came on right after I took that picture. IIRC, came on with like 2 gallons left.
Why is the driver's door key slot painted unlike the passenger side door? Is the lock functioning properly? Does it use the same key as the ignition, passenger door, and rear hatch?
Key was the same all throughout the car.
I'm sure I'll come up with a few more.
