Thats a bummer. The farthest I have driven any of my old MB's is from Delaware to Allentown, PA in my 300TE. It didn't have any issues at all but the long trip did cause the sidewalls of my tires to start cracking When it has new tires I wouldn't think twice about driving it anywhere.
