I don't think I've EVER gotten more than 30k miles out of my front pads, with 50/50 highway/city driving. I used to be shocked by this, but no more. It's the price you pay for extraordinary brakes. Stu Ritter talks about being able to actually rotate tires on the rims if you do too many panic stops with a 400E.
