I use a 14.4v power drill battery, 2 leads with small clips at the end. The battery is compact and powerful. Connecting it to the main battery terminal may or may not work as one never knows whether there is any wiring fault in the car. It may bust the battery if there is a short somewhere.
I only wanted the seat cushion the last time so I butchered up the wiring and hooked the clips directly to the motor to move the seat forward and backwards. If you want the whole seat then it may be better to hook the power to the switch on the door panel. It should be quite easy to figure out the wiring to the control motors. A multimeter may help.
