But I think you are right. The bracket goes on the alternator, then the assembly gets installed. I do remember having to wiggle things around a bit but it was not a monumental fight.

I had to reclock it for the 560. It ran a whopping $7 at my local shop.
The Eagle Electric unit I bought was junk. Idle output was comical...worse than the 65A I removed, used it as a core on a Bosch reman.
