I picked up my Manilla Beige 240D yesterday from the shop and drove it around again.
I think that the vibration is coming from the clutch. I don't know about bearing noise, it's hard to hear anything above the sounds of the OM616
.
However, the "wriiiir" "Wriiiiiir!" noise and vibration from the clutch as it gets to 3000+ RPM is pretty apparent.
So, for me (a novice mechanic), I think that the clutch needs replacing as something is out of balance, but I am unconvinced it is input shaft bearing noise. Even so, I have committed to buying the iron box tranny and will do so.
Sincerely,
Packman.
P.S. I checked my motor mounts very carefully, with engine running. They are just fine. No mushiness, no collapse, operating properly.
