1983 240D 4-speed: recommended transmission fluid and differential fluid?

Hello, all

Is there a current consensus on what fluid to use in the 4-speed manual transmission of a 240D (1983 aluminum Getrag, if that makes a difference)?

I'm hearing different recommendations. The two I see most often are ATF (Dexron II/III or Mercon II/III, I think), or Pennzoil Syncromesh.

The only manuals I've ever serviced in the past (not Mercedes) took gear oil.

Same question for the rear differential. Except that I haven't heard any specific recommendations. I do have the owner's manual, but it's buried somewhere in the car at the moment, and I don't necessarily want to trust 30+ year old recommendations, even if they're from the factory, when you consider all the advances in fluids in the decades since.

Thanks
