Well, it's been two years and I still haven't retired.
A past forum contributor, I've been off again to Afghanistan, rebuilding terrorist bomb damage to the U.S. Consulate.
Good news is the wife and I are moving to Colorado.
Bad news is I won't be able to recreate the same shade tree MB hobby shop at the new place.
Good news is the package is still available for some lucky buyer/group.
Better news, classic MB diesel cars of this vintage, once renovated, are worth north of $25,000. Google it.
A. Location: all three cars are in Silver Spring, MD.
B. Vehicles offered:
1. 1985 300D "Silver Bullet"; ODO 160,000; third owner. Current renovations underway: rebuild of battery tray and firewall, all materials on hand. New tires.
2. 1985 300D "Gray Ghost"; ODO 245,000; second owner. Renovations scheduled: engine tune-up; right rear brake line replacement.
3. 1985 300D "Old Blue"; ODO 265,000; original owner. Parts car used in 1. and 2. renovations. Engine, drive train OK.
C. General Renovations Scheduled: AC compressor rebuilds, hose change-out to allow 134a or similar.
D. Spare Parts Package: extensive. Besides the parts car itself, things like complete tail light assemblies. Using current online prices, ~$1,500-$2,000.
E. Consumables Package: extensive. things like seals, filters of all types, sealed beam lights, Diesel Kleen, etc. ~$200.
F. Special Tools Package: various. Shop-made and store-bought. Vacuum/pressure took kit. ~$500.
G. Documentation Package: priceless. Extensive hardcopy reference library, tech documentation, maintenance logs, rare shop manuals, how-to-fix-it downloads, and similar. A banker's box full. ~$250.
H. Tire Package: all three vehicles have five wheels, "new" rubber on original alloy rims. Included in this package are four additional, low mileage mud/snow tires mounted on steel rims (short wheel bolts included).
Those who know, know this package also can be parted out for large dollars. I don't have the time or the place to do it here.
This is a great opportunity for those of us who enjoy the satisfaction of doing the dirty hands work, effecting the renovations on our terms, then stepping back and appreciating what's been done. (Translation: "flippers" need not respond).
All titles are clean and in our possession. No liens, no chop jobs.
