Teflon treatment won't add anything to the outer layer of your car.

If your concerned about the depth of your clear coat, give a call to a few high end detail shops in your area and find out if they have a method of measuring the clear coat. There is optical equipment that will take measurements and give you depth in inches or mm. Measure different panels on your car and you'll immediately find the thin spots.

Remember, if your paint is shiny then most likely you have clear coat remaining and as long as you don't use any abrasives on the paint you shouldn't have to worry about wearing it off.
