For all the comments....
I'm out on a Road Rally in the Coupe right now , apart from the egr I do try to keep it bone stock as five decades of practical experience teaches that stock lasts longer , runs better and is more economical in the long run .
I have rebuilt the engine , re sleeving it as the DPO's ran it on unfiltered canola oil and anything else they got cheaply .
I rebuilt the turbo recently as it was passing a fair bit of oil into the intake stream and wasn't fee to spin , had radial and axial play , a loose circlip in one of the bushings blah blah blah , I replaced the shaft and so on , this reduced the blue smoke entirely .
Replaced all five injectors with good ones I tested on a buddy's pop tester .
I'm far from home having fun but discovered early yesterday morning that it will no longer exceed 85 MPH unless going down hill and when first I bought this car with it's bad engine (scored cylinders from coked up veggie oil) , it blew tremendous clouds everywhere it went but ran all the time @ 185 in traffic and easily went to 125 MPH with throttle left before I chickened out so I'm sure there's some little thing I've missed , why I want to learn IP timing very soon .
My other two M-B Diesel's the Wagon doesn't smoke , period .
The 240D smokes @ idle in gear but by the time I'm across the intersection from a dead stop , no more smoke so I know they're not supposed to smoke , I wonder why/how some folks don't get this simple concept .
