Funky cluster after removal (240D, 81')

Pulled my instrument cluster this morning to repaint the needles (they look great), reinstalled it, and now my speedometer and oil pressure gauge are acting up. Initially my speedo registers nothing, then around 30mph or so it jumps up and works normally provided I don't come to a complete stop.

Say I'm driving 10mph or just above and I give the cluster a light tap with my index finger, it'll start working. My hypothesis is that vibrations above 30mph or so are jiggling something that gets the thing going again (a natural tap of the finger).

Now the oil pressure gauge starts fine, performs fine, but then maybe 10 seconds after I turn the car off, i hear a pop, or a click and then the needle drops down to about .5-.75 and then sort of wobbles its way down to zero over the course of a few seconds. Is something too tight? Not tight enough?

I was so close to being finished...
