I have an 84 & 85 SD. Both recently required lubing the tracks. The 85 now works perfectly. The 84 needs a very small amount of help to open or close. What got me to this point was removing the cable and cleaning/lubing/adjusting until the roof without the cable worked smoothly by hand. I took a rifle cleaning rod and chucked it in a cordless drill and used it to clean and lube the rearward areas of the track. Also adjust the slides in enough to hold the roof but loose enough to slide.

Install the tops of the rails once you have the roof sliding freely by hand. Install the cable as a next step.

My felt pads were MIA. A forum member makes replacements out of plastic. They are/were still sort of in the development stage so are very inexpensive. They work fine on my cars. I just held them to the corner tabs with silicone. Perhaps he will weigh in.

The FSM also has specs and destructions on adjusting the cable clutch. I haven't crossed that bridge but may soon. I ony need slightly more umph to have the roof working perfectly.

Anyone feel free to weigh in on roof clutch adjustment.
