Just DO NOT use ATF ! .

The boob ' mechanic ' used it in my Euro 300TD and I'm so lucky everything still worked in spite of a thick coating of brownish mud in the reservoir...

I had to dismount it to clean it properly before I flushed the system and I keep a sharp eye on it in case some sludge shows up .

$8 / liter isn't too bad , once you've flushed it and changed the filter it should last several years before needing changing again .
