I do not have a W210, rather a w124 with OM606 also and have been thinking of pulling that in tank screen. You photo is what I was suspecting after 21 years of diesel sludge! That has to make a difference, especially for a engine that is sucking air up at the IP somewhere.
Was the general tank nasty as well?
