2006 E320 CDI, performs better when it's cold outside

Hi guys, my CDI tends to act sluggish in the summer months, even in the Spring and Fall when the outdoor temperatures are about 45 degrees or above, I even noticed smoke from what appears to be unburned fuel coming out of the tailpipe when I drive it at night. That said, I run fuel cleaner/conditioner through it about every other fill up and it does improve the sluggishness of acceleration, most pronounced when traveling at lower speeds on an uphill incline.

The last few days in Atlanta, the mornings have been cold, in the lower twenty degree range, and the daytime temps have been about 45 degrees and below.

When the temperatures run much colder like stated above, my CDI runs like a bat out of hell, all the sluggishness of acceleration miraculously disappears and you'd think you were driving a Dodge Changer as the performance goes through the roof.

Any ideas as to what may be making my CDI so sluggish in warm weather yet run flawlessly in the cold?

Thanks, in advance..... I'm stumped on this one!!!
