I have 195/70R14 on my W123 sedan. Had 205/70R14s on my old W123 sedan (w/ Bundts) and personally liked them a lot better than the 195s for comfort and handling. The speedo was more accurate with the 205s as well.

I now have 6.5" steelies and a rebuilt KKK turbo, so have enough power to not worry about tire size. I'm due for new tires and wondering how the 225/70R14s were for you as far as fitment and rubbing versus the 205s.

The 195 70 R14's are the sweet spot.
