I also need to mention that '90-'92 300Es are generation 5 CIS-E while '86-'89 are generation 3 CIS-E. It is best to not try to interchange stuff between the two. (There is some stuff like ECUs that you can't interchange even if you want to.) 93 300Es are actually HFM managed M104s that are entirely different animals altogether. (Except for 93 300E 4matics which are still gen 5 CIS-E M103s.)

Now maybe some of you out there also have a '90 or '91 V8 W126 and you are thinking: "Hey, my V8 car is still gen 3 CIS-E, what gives?" Well, you'll have to ask the factory that one. My theory is that since the W126 was slated for replacement in '92, MB figured it wasn't worth the trouble and expense of changing anything on those cars.
